Why Your Tint Shop Isn't Showing on Google Maps (and How to Fix It)

The common reasons a tint shop is missing from the map results, and what actually moves it up.

When someone searches "window tint near me", Google shows three shops on a map before any website. If yours isn't one of them, most of those buyers never see you. Here's why that happens and what to do about it.

How Google picks the three shops

Google says the local results depend on three things: relevance (does your profile match what they searched), distance (how far you are from the searcher) and prominence (how well-known and well-reviewed you are). You can't move your shop, so the work is in the other two.

Reason 1: Your profile is unverified, suspended or duplicated

Open business.google.com and check that your profile is verified and live. Search your shop's name on Maps and make sure there's only one listing. Duplicates split your reviews and confuse Google; request removal of the extra one.

Reason 2: Your category doesn't match the search

Your primary category tells Google what you are. For a tint shop it should be "Window tinting service". Add the services you also sell (paint protection film, ceramic coating, auto detailing) as additional categories and in the Services list. If your primary category is "Auto detailing" and someone searches tint, you're starting behind.

Reason 3: Too few recent reviews

Prominence leans heavily on reviews: how many, how good, and how recent. A shop with 300 reviews and none in six months can lose to a shop with 80 that gets a few every week. Ask every customer, every time, with a direct review link. Texting the link right after the job works best.

Reason 4: The profile looks inactive

Profiles with current photos, weekly posts and up-to-date hours look like a business that's open and busy. Post a photo of a finished job every week. Keep holiday hours current. Answer questions people leave on your profile.

Reason 5: Your website doesn't back it up

Google checks your website to confirm what your profile says. If your site barely mentions window tint, has no page for your town, or lists a different phone number or address, your profile looks less relevant. Make sure your name, address and phone match exactly everywhere, and give tint its own page with your films, shades and prices.

Reason 6: You're outside the searcher's area

If people searching from the next town over never see you, it's often distance. The map can't fix that, but your website can: a well-written page for that town can rank in the regular results below the map, where distance matters much less.

A simple weekly routine

  1. Text a review link to every customer that week.
  2. Post one photo of a finished job to your profile.
  3. Reply to every new review.
  4. Check your hours and services are still right.

That's about fifteen minutes a week, and it's what keeps a profile in the top three. If you'd rather not do it yourself, it's part of what we run for every client. See Business Profile management.
